Special Education Workshop: Life After High School
02/23/11 at 12:17pm

I wanted to share this with y'all......These workshops by the Alabama Parent Education Center are very well organized and extremely helpful.

Dear COSEPTA Families & Friends,

You are invited to attend Transition: Life After High School, a free workshop presented by The Alabama Parent Education Center's Alabama Parent Training and Information: Network for Children with Disabilities.  The workshop will be Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 10 am until 1 pm at the North Shelby Library, 5521 Cahaba Valley Road, Birmingham, AL 35242.

We are very pleased to be partnering with The Arc of Shelby County to bring you this opportunity. The reality is that our children will enter adulthood whether we're ready or not -- and that it's never too soon to prepare. Workshop participants will be presented with an overview of options including legal guardianship, conservertorship, medical issues and work programs.

Participants will also have an opportunity to review the new Alabama "Planning for Transition Handbook" now available from The Arc of Shelby County! This new material is full of resources here in Alabama for students with disabilities to access after high school.

This workshop is free, but we need to prepare materials so please make your reservation to  COSEPTA@gmail.com by February 23rd.

We ask you to please print out the attached flyer and share it with everyone who may be interested. You may print as many copies as you like and post it (with persmission) around your community.

Would you please pass along this email, too? Thanks.

Watch your email for details on upcoming COSEPTA Meetings and our next Alabama Parent Training and Information: Network for Children with Disabilities Workshop: IDEA: The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act on April 16th.

I look forward to seeing you next Saturday,

Barbara P. Calhoun, President
The Community Outreach Special Education Parent Teacher Association
