Tony (mayor) - quoted wants to attract tourism

Tony, you need to get the Hoover Metro. Arena built and get Gene Hallman bring in the venue.

The old "field of Dreams" you built it ; they will come!

Hey, we need a Hoover Met Arena before we need a "hospital".

Maybe we can call it the "Tony Petelos Civic Arena" and let that be your legacy!

No Hospital is on Riley, not Tony.

The dollar multiplier domino factor is greater on the Civic Arena than a hospital.

which would generate more revenue dollars - a hospital or multi event arena?

This whole conversation about tourism is so funny to me.  Does anyone remember the League of Women Voters' forum that was held prior to the 2004 election?  There was a candidate, Walter Mims, whose platform appeared to be "attract tourism".  He was laughed out of the forum.  Everybody thought he was nuts.  And now, 5 years later, the mayor is all about tourism.

This was before the Galleria Tax base when to "pot" and south.

He has got to increase that tax base or the Schools budget will be DECREASE even more in the years to come.

When Hoover's financial basis starts declining as it did last year, Tony will move on to Govrrenorr of Alabama. Maybe that's the only way to get him OUT  of Hoover.

From what I hear, they don't want him in Montgomery.  My understanding is that the mess that we refer to as our Board of Education has soured the folks in Montgomery on him because he didn't handle it very well....just kept saying "we have a fine school system, we have a fine school system" without trying to help the schools at all.....

Time will tell.
