Character Counts program?
07/30/07 at 6:35am

I heard that the Character Counts program will be taught this year at Spain Park and at all three middle schools, but not at Hoover High.  Can anyone confirm this?

If it's true, it's a shame....is it because all the character has gone out the window at HHS?

I applaud all the teachers not involved in this. It must be really hard to hold your head up and say that you teach at HHS. Keep up the good work (the ones NOT sleeping with RP) and help our kids get what they need despite the Powers That Be not giving a crap about them.

Wonder what the topic is going to be at the Employee Institute on 8/6.

Excuse me? Yes, HHS has been through some very dramatic events, most magnified and slung around the forums both here and at al.com by "concerned" parents and community members.
The city of Hoover should be proud of HHS. Through 6 principals and countless other distractions, HHS has managed to maintain excellent academics, fantastic extracurricular and sports programs besides football, superior academic academies, teams, and both AP and IB programs.  Teaching at a place like HHS is an honor. However, the reaction of the community to events that have unfolded this summer and the way that instead of being supportive, people want to say how ashamed they are of HHS is what makes being a part of HHS shameful.  Instead of being negative about all of HHS, rally behind Hoover and help everyone move past these events. The investigation will complete its duty and HHS will continue to serve its students and community. Instead of saying how ashamed teachers at HHS should be, be proactive and help bring back the true HHS.

I will be proactive.
I am hoping my vote will count. As an Employee of this beloved school system, I myself am embarrassed.
We have to join together.

The excellence you refer to, bucs568, will not be sustainable over the long-haul if the current situation is not fixed.  It is all well and good to talk about support, but I don't believe anyone here isn't supporting the school, it's teachers or it's students.  In fact, all this debate is precisely about support for those who have little power to change things.

What we do not support is the way that business is being done by the BOE, the administration and, in particular, RP.  Many of us are indeed "concerned" - but without the cute parentheses.  And there are more and more every day.  Mark these words:  In time, RP and the rest of the rotting scum who have brought this shame to our proud community and school will be cleansed.  It may not be tomorrow, next week or even by the end of the school year, BUT...it will happen.
