When my family moved into the city of Hoover over twelve years ago from another well thought of community...our friends told us we had lost our minds. Leaving the well established, solid school system for a fairly new one seemed quite irrational to them. However, I was well pleased and smiled to myself, thinking that Hoover was a well kept secret. New schools, innovative teaching, bus availability, teachers who were dedicated to the education of our children, etc. Now it seems as though we have become the laughingstock of just about everybody. I am not going to attack the character, dress code or anything else of those on the BOE, but I do remember statements made by them about how they were tired of losing good teachers to Mountain Brook, Vestavia and Homewood and how we needed to do what it took to keep them in our schools. I know for a fact that in the school one of my children attends has lost seven teachers in the last three years to Mountain Brook! These were great teachers. I am really worried about the recent publicity and how it will affect the education my children will receive. I have had friends who are teachers tell me that they would not apply for a job in the Hoover School system if it were the last job on earth! What is it going to take to get control of this situation? This will take YEARS to rectify. I have even heard that maybe private investigators were being hired to fabricate situations that would be incriminating to those teachers who caused trouble. Anybody with common sense knows that private investigators pictures can be "photoshopped" and are therefore, worthless. Let's just be straight up and get rid of the people who are not good role models and who do not have the good of our children at the top of their list. I strongly feel that a teacher's behavior, both in and out of the classroom, should be without question. Kids have enough "negative" influences without the adults in their lives acting like children.
