Here's my opinion on what I witnessed tonight.

Since the Propst issue, this Board has taken forever to make a decision about everything.  From FOI requests to making a decision about procedures, nothing comes quick to them.  Another poster stated the following in one of the Sports threads on this forum: At this point in time, they should have interviewed everyone who had ever walked past the practice fields.  No one is being served by dragging this out!

Really?  No one?  Think about that.  Really think about that.  I'll give you a while to dwell on that.

OK Goog, I've dwealt on it enough. Who is being served by dragging this out?....

Oh, and from my earlier post. Maybe the lack of inclusion of the AD was a "message" to her that it was time to move on. Maybe the new principal is doing the housecleaning that should have been done years ago.

Hoover already had their way with SP on the football field.  What else is left?

Thanks, gal, for pointing out the obvious.  Why hasn't Mr. Craig been able to "wrap his arms around this" (one of his favorite quotes) and settle it?  There is urgency to this matter, as the football team's season has started.  If this were the start of summer, it might be different.

Whenever employees' jobs are on the table (as it appears that might be the case here), there are many i's to dot and t's to cross.  That being said, it was hard to watch those parents in the gallery that were so befuddled by the ridiculous processes our schools have to go through to get ANYTHING done.  It made me realize how seasoned I've become.  I've grown used to watching them move as quickly as a slug.  I've grown used to having to prod them and poke them to get things (anything at all) done.  It's the lack of recognition that there is URGENCY to this matter (and indeed to MANY matters that come before the board) that is so frustrating.

And gal, you hit the nail on the head.  This is Mr. Craig's problem.  Mr. Craig is one of the highest paid superintendents in the state of Alabama (no longer THE highest paid, I believe) and yet he appears incapable of simply making a decision.  I appreciate that he has reached out to a group of folks in the Financial Task Force.  I appreciate that he has put together search teams for principals.  Those two cases have been where there is time to make a decision.

But this is different.  A decision should be made.  They went into Executive Session last night to discuss the possibility of litigation if the Board takes a possible action.  I left when the Board went into Executive Session.  What I'm having trouble with is why the Board is even involved in this investigation.  Seems to me that Mr. Craig should have had enough information to make a recommendation to the Board.  The Board could then consider it, and THEN, if necessary, call an Executive Session to discuss it.  But the idea of Mr. Craig consulting with the Board as opposed to making a recommendation is repulsive to me.  He's the superintendent.  It's the same wishy-washy behavior that tore this community apart in 2007.

Again, thanks, gal, for pointing out the obvious.  Sometimes we get too mired down in the details and forget the process has been perverted.

According to newspaper Craig did make a recommendation. At any rate, Shores was BB's hire. Maybe the new principal has someone else he wants in the job. AC's kid no longer plays so he got what he wanted out of it for moving to the SP zone and helping attract some move-ins for some sports (and not just football). Baseball coach might be next.

As one of the SP parents was quoted in the paper "We are an embarrassment". She is correct.

Congrats to Donna, Suzie, AW, AC and all the SP gang for your fine job handling controversy over the last 3 years. Still didn't get you anywhere

I'm enjoying watching this from the sidelines! Not to steal any thunder from our friend Deep Throat, but if around he/she might say that Andy needs to be very careful in handling Shores because of how past events have played out. If Shores gets canned, he has nothing else to lose.

And oh yeah - TIC!

Doesn't it make you wonder WHY there are no posts from SPHS football parents or why no SPHS football parents are speaking out against Shores?  That should speak volumes in itself!!!  There are no posts from SPHS parents because they all fear retaliation against their chid if Shores is reinstated.  At this point the administration has interviewed the players.  They have the facts and have had them for 2 weeks now.  My guess is they are dragging their feet because what the players reported happening on the field was a different story than what Shores/Morris reported.   I just feel sorry for the 14 seniors!  By the way, when these seniors were freshmen there were 51 players on the team.  Maybe that speaks volumes too???

The Board isn't supposed to make decisions but is supposed to act on recommendations made by the superintendent.  Why hasn't Mr. Craig made a decision about Coach Shores?    Sounds our Superintendent is the one taking forever to make a decision on this situation.

Here's my opinion on what I witnessed tonight.

First, regarding the parents present in support of Coach Shores.  These folks truly care about the coach.  They all spoke very highly of him, some were very passionate in their comments.  But there was no difference in tonight's meeting vs. the June 2007 meeting where all of the Hoover HS boosters spoke in support of Coach Propst.  Both groups of parents were passionate and both genuinely cared about their head coach.

What bothers me about this meeting is that these parents were surprised and shocked that it has taken so long to come to a decission.  Folks, you need to attend more school board meetings.  You need to care more about your school system than just the football team.  This delay isn't unusual.  This is status quo for the Board.

Finally, usually 3 people show up for School Board meetings.  Usually those 3 are outnumbered by the Board members.  Tonight it was a packed house.  Because of football.  Imagine what could be accomplished if we had this size crowd for every Board meeting.

And Mr. Outlaw...if you're going to post my material on the other forum, at least have the courtesy to cite your source.
