I assume there's not time restrictions in the question, so I will throw out a positive:
 
Appointed Earl Cooper to the Board of Education.  Based on reports, the search was fair, concise and the outcome was not pre-determined.

OK, I've come up with one:
 
They have saved us the trouble of coming up with a new name and mascot for a third high school in Hoover.
 
How did they accomplish this?  They took away (severely cut) sales tax money that had been given to the schools, and they appointed BOE members that have done a very good job of spending down the money that had been saved, 'bricks and mortar fund'.  Now, when asked about that third HS the zoning committee recommended, there is no money.  When the school board and super are asked if the schools have had to go without anything, the answer in "no", but they should add, except room for the students.
 
I guess the CC thought we could only come up with two mascots and sets of school colors.  They are just looking out for us
