Quote from hoover1990 on 08/06/07 at 6:20pm:"A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold." Proverbs 22:1
At least Rev. Gray had the courage to address the issue in no uncertain terms. (Do what is right rather than what is easy ... Think about how Hoover is known, and what we're known for) Our other "leaders" (except for Dr. Jarnagin, who commended Rev. Gray's message in our faculty meeting today) only mouthed meaningless platitudes about how great the Hoover system is and never even acknowledged the firestorm swirling around us.
Dr. Jarnagin had sent all Hoover High employees a letter last week indicating that we would be sitting together at Institute to show our solidarity. Typically, however, the section reserved was not big enough to accommodate all of us, so many of us had to scatter. There must be a metaphor in there somewhere (A house divided ...)
The city council, mayor, and board members were in attendance and were briefly acknowledged, with no time allowed for reaction. And someone please help Andy with his public speaking skills. He needs to keep his hands out of his pockets and know what he wants to say well enough that he doesn't have to read it from his notes. He made himself appear incredibly nervous and uncomfortable rather than confident and in control.
