Title: Predict the result of the investigation at HHS
Post by hoover1990 on 07/21/07 at 7:22am

Here are mine:

Firings:     0

RP stays, Richard Bishop stays (and is renewed for a 3 year contract), CM stays, TB stays.

Policy changes:        1

They will make a big show of saying that no grades are to be changed unless the teacher signs off on the change.
Nothing will change with regard to the assignment of football players to the classes of non-tenured teachers.  They will claim that is not happening.
The will not find the "outside accounts" alleged to have been run by boosters.  Those are gone by now.  They will announce that "henceforth, ALL booster funds are to run through school accounts and be audited".  Which is ALREADY the policy.

Final cost of the investigation:      $87,000

Amount of the Pointer Report that will be released to the public:         0%

Number of BOE meeting where the members discuss the investigation publicly:            0

They will meet in executive session, claiming that the matters involved "good name and character".

Other:

RP will get a quiet divorce from his wife and marry his mistress and his buddies will praise him publicly for "doing the right thing."
Hoover will lose some games this year, and RP will whine that the "distraction" of the investigation was the reason.  He will chastise the community for "hurting these kids".
RP will get a raise.
Richard Bishop will be the most highly paid high school principal in the state.

I was at the school board meeting Thursday when Judge Pointer spoke and folks, I'll tell you, it feels JUST LIKE the Superintendent search.  The BOE spends our money to have a highly professional, amiable and attractive gentleman come in and tell the public just how thorough this investigation is and how great it's going.  It's all so comforting.  When the search firm did it, I remember thinking, "There's NO WAY they can screw this up."  And they didn't.  They did exactly what they said they would do, but when the decision was put in the board's hands, the doors slammed shut and the decision was made out of the public view, and we ended up with one of the most highly paid and unqualified Superintendents in the state.

What I saw Thursday night is a set up for the SAME thing.  The BOE kept the public from knowing who applied for Supt. by using the search firm to shield them.  The board didn't see the names of all the applicants, so the public couldn't either.  This time, they will see the whole report (which would make it subject to the open records law), but they will claim attorney client privilege to keep us from seeing any of it.  We will know only what they choose to tell us.  The attorneys who prepared the report are bound not to reveal any of it.

The swing vote in this matter is A. W. Bolt.  The two women, I believe would vote to impose consequences against Propst and Bishop, and Defnall and Veitch NEVER would.  So, it's up to Bolt.  And that kind of power in Bolt's hands will be expensive for someone.

I predict.....that you're right, 1990.

Did ya'll see RP's interview last night on his buttboy Rick Karle's station?  He was all spruced up, no view of the reporter (c'mon, Rick, isn't the whole idea that you WANT people to know you're his buddy?), saying "there's been no wrongdoing", blah blah blah.

What a waste.

You're right about old A.W., too, 1990.  Gonna be very expensive to swing A.W.'s vote.  That man doesn't even have a soul.

One additional prediction:  the steady stream of Hoover High's great teachers heading to other school systems will grow steadily until in 5 to 7 years, there has been complete turnover in the school.  Young, inexperienced teachers (easily controlled by RP and his other buttboy, Bishie) will head every classroom and the entire culture of Hoover High School will be corrupted.

Final result:  everybody screams to be rezoned to Spain Park.

You must have a crystal ball or either you have kept up with the pattern of decisions that have been made from the top of our government all of the way down to the school system.  I would venture to guess the latter because if this scenerio came to fruition it would be consistent with previous actions that have occurred.  Propst probably jumped the gun by giving us part of the "plan" during his Fox 6 interview when he mentioned "procedural changes" that will need to made as a result of the investigation.  I sincerely hope that this is not how it plays out, but I don't think any of us will be surprised if it does.  What an example it will be for our children, don't worry about rules or laws...if you break them you can always just change them or not acknowledge that you broke them and just restate them.

I agree with the prediction of what will happen.  But the public has recourse. Don't forget.  The BOE and CC will be counting on you to lose interest.  With respect to the BOE, vote in a new CC and mayor next June that assure you that the current BOE will be replaced.

With respect to the "missing accounts" that cannot be found, well, my fellow Hoover citizens and friends, it's up to us whether we let them off of the hook on that one. We need to get the appropriate governmental agencies involved to review the media and other outside contracts that we know about (MTV, ESPN, Nike, summer camps run by coaches, etc..).  Once we/they have the contracts in hand, then if Andy Craig, a CPA by training, who has been either the superintendent or certified Chief Financial Officer of the Hoover school system during the entire timeframe in question,  he will be removed by the state  and/or indicted if he cannot lawfully account for the money and funds for which he is ultimately responsible. Ignorance cannot be used as a defense by him on this issue. "Oops, don't know how much money we received or how it was spent, but it must all be gone because we cannot find it" cannot be used as a defense by him. He cannot try to blame it on the internal auditor, Wendy Brandon, who served for a short period of time as interim CFO after the state BOE told Craig that he could not serve simultaneously as CFO and superintendent. ( Now we know without any doubt why he and the BOE wanted so few people involved with handling money).  The newly named CFO for the system has not been in the picture long enough to know to look for accounts outside of the school system.  But expert government investigators with full access will find them.  Craig is culpable, and since the BOE obviously sanctioned or dictated his actions, each of them is culpable, too.  The irony is that the one person who probably benefitted the most, if not exclusively, from the missing funds is RP.  But it was not RP's responsibility to take care of our taxpayer's dollars. Once, again, RP will "skate" free.

If any of you as private citizens want to raise your concerns and ask for an investigation from the state BOE, attorney general's office, state board of examiners, IRS, or state ethics commission, you can find their contact info on the internet.  If you need help, private message me and I'll give it to you.  The more citizens who seek an investigation, the more likely we are to receive a response.  The local media, sadly, is not doing its job for the public.  Each media outlet should be going to the central administration office and demand to see the contracts referenced above and the corresponding financial accounts for each contract.  Each individual citizen can make the same demands to review these documents. Don't wait until after the BOE's legal team concludes their investigation.  The BOE has control over what it will disclose and it won't disclose these financial issues.  If anything, I am confident that the BOE has instructed its legal team to not focus on the financial issues for the rest of its review, but solely the academic/athletic matters.

Wow.  A lot of unhappy campers in Hoover, huh?  I guess when this "movement" replaces the current BOE, and then a new "movement" of a lot of other unhappy campers will replace the next.  You simply can't make everyone happy.

I love ol' radar's angle he/she takes on the deal... hell, call or a congressional investigation and take it to the Supreme Court if needed!

Follow the money-- everybody knew what Al Capone had done, but the only way they ever got him behind bars was for tax evasion.

this is to YOU Andy Craig. The thing to do is the RIGHT thing. Not try to hide this or sweep it under the rug.

Fire the people who are causing this shool system grief....Sure, there will be press and stories but you will be known as a man with morals who can be counted on to do the right thing. Don't just whisper behind closed doors like a coward...stand up and do the RIGHT THING.

I still think there is a 50/50 chance that R Bishop is goign to be the scapegoat on this one. Especially since his contract is up now. He may very well survive this but they will have to put the blame on someone. Or this will be a total joke (and an expensive one at that).

Title: Re: Predict the result of the investigation at HHS

Bishop IS responsible for this mess due to either negligence or covering up; he needs to go and someone that the faculty can truly trust needs to be placed at the helm of the ship.  This means that that the BOE should not promote any of the current APs to this position.  Someone new, with integrity, and with an earnest desire to make HHS the great school it can be should be his replacement (that means working for ALL students, as well as repsecting the teachers because this school has amazing teachers that work very hard for the students - they do not deserve to be told they are disposable or made to feel that way).
FIRE BISHOP!

LOL.  I can't wait for school to start back up in a few weeks so all these characters posting out here will have better things to occupy their time... or will they waste more of my tax dollars and continue to participate and post from the classroom?    :-?

sorry guys, I for one am not a teacher.   And, I do work... but as a parent, this is somewhat important to me.  You two (MoS and Ninnyhammer) need to realize there are alot of parents in hoover pretty upset about this situation.  I'm hearing it lots of places..You can ignore it , deny it, downplay it, whatever... you're wrong.

Hearing what in a lot of places?  Are you talking about the grade changes or Rush's girlfriend?

Thanks,

HH

mommy nator -

As I scroll back up through this thread, I don't see where anyone suggested you were a teacher.  As a matter of fact, I don't even see your alias being mentioned prior to your above post.  Anyway...

I can't speak for MoS, but I'm not downplaying, ignoring, denying, or whatever "the situation" at all.  However, what I am doing is NOT spewing rhetoric, lies, rumors, and the likes on public forums.  I'll wait until, hopefully, facts are known and then I may, or may not, comment on the situation.

Look, IMHO, some things are worth looking into, while others are simply no-body's business.  If grade changes is a "common occurrence" at HHS, then that's certainly an issue worth getting fired up about and an issue needing to be addressed.  However, I discount anything that a "former" or "disgruntled" faculty member may be spreading amongst the masses.  Heck, everyone’s all in a tizzy about Rush's personal life, and allegations of him being involved in a grade-changing scheme... but yet you have limp-wristed gays and dykes alike interacting and teaching our kids on a daily basis within our schools.  And... not to mention some of the required material they have to read that are just as much against some people's religious and/or moral beliefs as what you’re all upset about as to what RP’s “supposedly” done.  But hey, that's not near as much fun as spreading gossip, allegations, and rumors about the HC of one of the most high-profile prep football programs in the nation (or the School's Admin, City's BOE, etc, etc).  Interesting, huh?

In a nutshell, I guess it's what you're willing to tolerate and as to what you'll be willing to fuss about.. and of course, what you're willing to gossip about just as soon as you get home from Church each Sunday, can get online, and sign in to your account on THE Hoover forum.

Go figure.

momminator,

May I add that I also work and I am also a parent. I played football for Bob Finley in the seventies. I am a fan of the program and a booster. I am PROUD of Hoover High School and all of the athletic programs. I also like a winner, you can say a lot of things about Rush Propst but one thing is for SURE he is a WINNER. Reguardless of Rush's character I certainly do not believe his OFF THE FIELD activies will iniate the total dimise of our wonderful High school.

Man of Steel, as someone who played for Coach Finley, you know all about a man of character.  Coach Finley taught that while winning is important, HOW you won was just as important.  Also important was how you carried yourself and how to be a man.

That you can support a man, who remarked that "The days of Bob Finley are over!" to a group shortly after being named Head Coach, is very disappointing.  I wonder what Coach Finley would have thought had he been in the room with other coaches at Hoover when this same man told his new coaching staff and supporters that if Hoover High football and winning State Championships didn't mean more to you than "this" (and he held up his wedding ring), he didn't need them.

I think you can be a proud Buc and at the same time want someone as Head Coach that inspires and is a good, moral leader for our sons...like Coach Finley was.

Score one for Altec on the 50/50 for Bishop-- seems the latest BOE action was a 50/50. Don't fire him today, like Craig requests, let's wait until noon tomorrow. Fewer working folks can show up at noon, and it gives us overnight to drum up a response from our corps of idle SUV moms. Fire up the Booster Bus, break out the pom-poms!!
